In this given example we take unknown side in the numerator and the side which we know, we make it denominator of fraction,

Here according to the above definition the variable p is unknown and the value of denominator is 12;

Now according to the second step name the function of angle,

Unknown/ known= 1/ 12= sin 46 ?

Now according to the third step we use the trigonometric table to evaluate that function,

Unknown / known= p/ 12= sin 46 ?= .719

Now we calculate the unknown side = p = 12x .719 = 8.62 inch.

When we apply all the above steps properly then we easily find the solution.
