With the use of a computer integrated telephone system, the Communications Center Representative position is responsible for the centralized processing of internal and external phone calls routed into the organization's switchboard. The general public is provided patient information and general information in regards to all aspects of services provided within the multi-site WakeMed healthcare system. Calls from community physicians are given priority service to ensure communication with their peers as well as provide expedient referral services for either emergency department arrivals or inpatient transfers. Calls are coordinated within a defined time frame for all physicians, mid-level providers and residents. Internal hospital staff is provided assistance with all types of call processing from transfers, conferencing and international dialing. Assistance is provided with page messaging and the contacting of on call staff and physicians during after-hours. This position is the nucleus for the activation of emergency response teams for the various in-house medical emergency events as well as other numerous environment of care events.
Experience Requirements
:
Multi-line telephone experience; Typing 35 - 40 wpm accurately required; Basic computer skills within a Windows environment; At least 3 years experience providing a high level of service to a diverse customer base within a professional office environment required. Three or more years experience with a PBX and computer integrated telephony system preferred; typing at least 60 wpm accurately preferred; Intermediate computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office applications preferred; Completion of a basic medical terminology course; 3 or more years providing service to a diverse customer base with a high level of customer contact within a healthcare setting preferred.
